Penya movement stands firm in the fight against COVID-19

NEWS 23 Apr 2020 - Supporters' Clubs World Confederation

Both financial and material aid being sent to hospitals, charity organisations and families

Financial donations, health protection material, disinfectant products, basic foodstuffs, equipment for the elderly… The FC Barcelona supporters’ movement is doing plenty, week after week, to help combat the effects of Covid-19 throughout the country.

The latest donations include €1,800 to Hospital Reina Sofía de Tudela by the Aragón, La Rioja and Navarra Federation and its penyes, €1,000 to the Red Cross from the Extremadura Federation, €1,000 for Hospital de Tremp by the Ponent Nord Federation, €1,000 to the Fundació Convent Santa Clara from the El Vallès Federation, 3,000 kg of rice for Cáritas from the Terres de l'Ebre Federation and 350 masks distributed by the Barcelonès Est Federation.

Other charity actions include those by the Centenario de Jaén (€600 for masks), Fuentealbilla (€2,000 and material), Tarazona de la Mancha (€600 in material), Erreniega (€500 for Hospital de Navarra), Pedrito (collection of charity breakfasts), Vall d’Aran (material to make masks with 3D printers) and Portbou (€500 for Càritas). It’s impossible to keep track of everything that the Penyes are doing, as they selflessly strive to help in any way they can.

Supporters’ clubs in movement

Meanwhile, the PB Monells has made collections from more than 6,000 people to raise €14,000 for technological material and special seats for the Zoilo Feliu Geriatric Home in La Bisbal d’Empordà. And the Penya Almogàvers has collected €2,000 so far to support Doctor Oriol Mitjà with his research with the hashtag #JoEmCorono. These are just a few examples of how effective the penyas are for mobilising the capacity of their communities.

Food Bank, there as always

Naturally, the work that the supporters’ clubs movement does for the Banc dels Aliments (Food Bank) has done nothing but intensify in these times of crisis. Donations in the form of money or directly as food has been plentiful, such as those from the El Vallès Federation (€2,000), the Barcelonès Oest Federation (€1,000), and the supporters’ clubs in Jaén (€1,000), PB Albense (350kg), PB Balaguer (€500) and PB Meritxell (€1,000), among others
