NEWS 14 Jan 2020 - Supporters' Clubs World Confederation
The movement is continuing to gain strength in Italy, while its presence in Africa is expanding with the first penya from Mali
The FC Barcelona Board of Directors has made two new 'penyes' official, the Penya Barcelonista di Napoli and the Penya Blaugrana de Bamako. Both will help to increase the international weight of the supporters' movement, which now features 1,265 supporters' clubs, 444 in Catalonia, 676 elsewhere in Spain and 145 in the rest of the world. In total, the movement has some 165,000 members.
Blaugrana presence in Naples
Just over a month before the last sixteen encounter with Napoli in the Champions League, the Italian city has made its blaugrana passion known by officialising their local supporters' club. With some seventy members, the Penya Barcelonista di Napoli will be getting off to a splendid start, and will be making sure that players and fans alike get a warm reception when they visit the South of Italy. There are now five 'penyes' in this Mediterranean country.
Africa gains another member
After the recognition of new supporters' clubs in such countries as Rwanda and Senegal, there is now another addition to the family in Mali, further expanding the number in French speaking countries around the continent. The Penya Blaugrana de Bamako is in the capital city of the country, and has almost a hundred supporters, showing how the movement is so capable of agglutinating support for the team in every corner of the globe.
