NEWS 07 Oct 2019 - World Confederation of Supporters' Clubs
Dozens of local residents got to enjoy the inauguration of the new venue, located midway between the districts of Sant Andreu, Nou Barris and Horta-Guinardó
The Supporters’ Clubs Federation of Barcelonès Est, in association with the World Confederation of Supporters’ Clubs, opened its wonderful new site in the city of Barcelona with a grand street party. The event gathered dozens of supporters clubs, members and Barça fans in general who got the chance to have a good look around the new facility and also take part in the many activities for adults and children organised on occasion of the opening.
The Club itself was well represented, with first vice-president Jordi Cardoner i Casaus there, in the company of Pau Vilanova, the director responsible for the Supporters’ Clubs, and Emili Rousaud, spokesman for the board. Also in attendance were Antoni Guil, president of the World Confederation of Supporters’ Clubs; Jordi Monturiol, president of the Supporters’ Clubs Federation of Barcelonès Est; and Felipe Martínez, Councillor for Sport for the District of Sant Andreu. Several members of the Supporters’ Clubs Council also didn’t want to miss such a special day.
“We want to promote support for Barça in the district, for this to be a meeting point for fans, members and supporters’ clubs, and also because we want to do our bit for the neighbourhood and make it a nicer place for everyone”, said Jordi Monturiol, who also thanked the World Confederation of Supporters’ Clubs for its commitment to the clubs in East Barcelona, and also thanked FC Barcelona itself and the districts of Sant Andreu, Nou Barris and Horta-Guinardó for being so supportive.
Meanwhile, Antoni Guil highlighted the importance of these new headquarters for penyes in the city of Barcelona: “Today we are taking a big step forwards in opening up the FC Barcelona Supporters’ Clubs to everyone. We are in the midst of commemorating our centenary so it makes me especially pleased to congratulate you on creating a space like this, which will be a new hub for Barça supporters in these districts. The supporters’ clubs movement is expanding relentlessly”.
Finally, Jordi Cardoner i Casaus said that: “The penyes movement has always meant something special to me, and so I am especially happy to be here today as you open this new clubhouse. Once again, Barça supporters are showing their social strength and making true of the expression that we are ‘Més que un Club’ (More than a Club), which makes all the sense in the world”. The first vice-president was then joined by a child in opening the curtain over the entrance to the venue, this declaring it officially open.
Fun for all the family
As well as getting the chance to explore the new site, everybody was also able to join in with a host of activities. One of the most successful was a wheel of fortune, with heaps of Barça themed prizes for the people that were ready to try their luck, as well as a striking Virtual Reality attraction, where users got to enjoy a 360 degree video with various thrilling FC Barcelona moments.
There was also a PES 2020 tournament featuring the videogame produced by Japanese firm Konami, while the photo booth also went down a storm, with people able to take home a pictorial memento of a great day out. And all of this was played out to the audio backdrop of a DJ providing music throughout the event.
The big moment came with a raffle to win two sets of two flights donated by Vueling, the sponsor of the World Confederation of Supporters’ Clubs, which was entered by everybody who had shared their impressions of the day and venue to a specially prepared camera. The lucky winners, a passionate Supporters’ Club member and a young lad who had come with his family to enjoy the day, were able to crown a fun-packed day with a terrific prize.
Barça’s home open to all
The new home of the Supporters’ Clubs Federation of Barcelonès Est in collaboration with the World Confederation of Supporters’ Clubs is located in Carrer Ramon Albó nº 7-13, the meeting point of the districts of Sant Andreu, Nou Barris and Horta-Guinardó. As well as being a wonderful place for people to gather to watch matches together, it is also an information point for any person, club or association, and also serves as an office and care centre for Supporters’ Clubs members.
The organisers plan to put on all kinds of Barça and Supporters’ Clubs activities, including e-sports tournaments, charity fundraisers, and cultural events. They will also be making the site available to other organisations that need such facilities, and will be working together with other entities and associations in these districts
