On occasion of the US tour, the Penya Barcelonista de Miami hosts Penyes Futbol Games PES19 tournament as main attraction of gathering of American supporters clubs
The Barça preseason has taken the team to North America for the third summer in a row. And the local supporters clubs have once again turned out in force to welcome the players and to hold their third American meeting.
The Penya Barcelonista de Miami hosted the events, which began with something aimed at younger fans. On August 6 in Coral Gables, the club’s home pub was the venue for the latest edition of the Penyes Futbol Games, featuring the PES19 game by Japanese company Konami.
The tournament was officially by opened by FC Barcelona director Javier Bordas, together with the director in chief of the Social Commission Josep Maria Barnils and current Barça ambassador Juliano Belletti, who enjoyed playtime with the young fans.
The over 50 participants were joined by the president of the World Federation of Barça Penyes, Antonio Freire, and the mayor of Coral Gables, Raul Valdes-Fauli.
American penyes meeting
The morning of August 7 is the date set for the meeting of American penyes, part of the III Pan-American Penyes Meeting, attended by 14 clubs from all over the continent, not only from the US but also Mexico, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica.
Josep Maria Barnils will be reviewing the projects being run by the FC Barcelona Supporters Clubs Confederation as part of the Penyes Segle XXI project, as well as encouraging the fans in the room to take these on board and spread them throughout the Americas.
Antonio Freire will be discussing the decisions made by the Federation that involve a new organisation of the World zone with the intention of making them more autonomous in their respective areas: Europe, Asia and Oceania, Africa, North America, Central America and Caribbean, and South America.
Exponential growth worldwide
The expanding interest in Barça around the globe is made patent by the exponential growth in the number of international penyes. In the last four years, 50 such penyes have been made official, and the World Federation now consists of 134 clubs in all five continents, with more than 22,000 members.
