Unconditional support of Barça penyes features in new edition of ‘Blaugranes’ magazine
NEWS 05 Jul 2019 - Supporters' Clubs World Confederation
The ninth edition of the official FC Barcelona Supporters’ Clubs World Confederation highlights the importance, growth and activity of the supporters’ movement and speaks to some Club legends
Barça fans can now enjoy the latest edition of Blaugranes magazine, which highlights the importance of its supporters’ clubs. The support they give to the different Barça teams on their travels makes the ‘penyes’ the real drivers of the teams on the road and the magazine has taken the opportunity to showcase what they do.
The 9th edition also looks at some of the latest matters concerning the ‘penyes’ movement and the new activities being set up by the Confederation. It also talks to two people who played essential roles in blaugrana history: Juliano Belletti, Club Ambassador and Barça Legend, and Josep Maria Barnils, director responsible for the FC Barcelona Social Commission. They both speak about their time at the Club, their passion for the team and the importance of the fans.
The key to FC Barcelona’s success: the fans
The last Copa del Rey final was a clear example of the passion that supporters feel for their team. A huge number of fans packed the stands at the Benito Villamarín in their blaugrana colours, once again showing that distance is no obstacle when it comes to supporting their team. This is the main theme of the lead story in Blaugranes, where Antoni Guil, president of the Confederation, talks about what a big role the fans play not only in spurring the football team on towards victory, but all the other sports teams too.
The pages also describe the unconditional support that has done so much to motivate the women’s team as typified by such occasions as the UEFA Women’s Champions League final.
The magazine also introduces fans to a brand new competition, the Penyes Padel Tour, which promotes the social value of this racket sport among Barça fans.
The magazine is also launching a new transversal section that covers the different events organised by the Confederation in previous months. It showcases major sporting and social successes, such as the new Junts+ season, the role played by handball and the internationalisation of the Penyes Futbol Games. Christian activist Sor Lucía Caram has also demonstrated her commitment to the ‘penyes’ in a speech raising awareness about child poverty at an activity attended by hundreds of people. Roots, history and the Catalan identity are another common feature of her Barça discussions, which have brought fans closer to the history of the Club of their dreams.
Meet three penyes and the latest news from the movement
As is traditional, the magazine also reveals the secrets and anecdotes of three Barça supporters’ clubs, one Catalan, from Papiol; one Spanish, from Villabalter; and one international, from Japan, an Asian society that has readily adopted Catalan cuisine and traditions.
Finally, the magazine also looks back at the latest news from the ‘penyes’ over the last few months, again revealing just how tirelessly hard-working and dedicated our unique set of supporters are.
