Penya Blaugrana de Marrakech organises 8th Congress of French speaking FC Barcelona Supporters’ Clubs
The Penya Blaugrana de Marrakech, together with the World Federation and the Supporters’ Clubs World Confederation, organised the 8th Congress of Francophone Penyes this weekend in Morocco. All 24 of the clubs from the French-speaking world in France and North Africa were in attendance.
The director in chief of the FC Barcelona social commission, Josep Maria Barnils; the president of the Confederation, Antoni Guil; the president of the World Federation; Antoni Freire; and the presidents, boards and members of the host supporters’ club and the attending clubs were all present, making for a total of 120 people.
The PB Marrakech didn’t want to limit the event to only official penyes and also invited the Penya Barcelonista of Mauritania, which is still being created. And although they are not yet officially part of the Penya movement, its members have clearly got the right Blaugrana spirit, and travelled for eight days (there and back) in a bus to be able to attend the event.
Saturday was the first day of the congress and also a chance to get some sightseeing done in Marrakech by visiting the Medina, the old district of the city, the Majorelle Garden and the Yves Saint-Laurent Museum. In the evening, they attended a gala supper in a restaurant belonging to one of the members of PB Marrakech, who had prepared a show for the guests involving horse riders bearing the flags of Barça and Morocco. This was followed by a firework show that culminated with the appearance of the words “Visca el Barça” that got the whole audience breaking out into a heartfelt rendition of the Barça anthem. The different dignitaries then signed the guest book.
Sunday was the work day for the Congress and the different supporters’ clubs pooled their knowledge and targets, which was followed by an excursion on quad bikes to the palm forests in the desert around Marrakech.
The closing dinner began with Yassine El Antri, the president of the host club, welcoming the guests and beginning the exchange of gifts. Antoni Freire, Antoni Guil and Josep Maria Barnils also gave speeches, with the latter presenting an institutional cylinder to the organising president. Souvenirs were then distributed to all the guest clubs, followed by a group photo and then chance to all gather and enjoy a fantastic Betis v Barça game on TV.
